Child abuse is a serious problem in Angola in terms of human rights violation, an expert of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said here on Thursday.

In a study released in the Angolan capital Luanda, Lidia Borba, a UNICEF's specialist for children protection in Angola, said children charged with witchcraft occur frequently in Angola's provinces of Luanda, Zaire, Uige and Cabinda where infants are mistreated and abandoned, which complicates their community reintegration.

She added that such accusations imply yet stigmatism, physical, verbal and psychological violence, among others.

According to the UNICEF specialist, the Angolan government shall assure and take all preventing legislative, social and administrative measures in order to better supervise the accused children.
