A "grandiose funeral" is set to be held for Guinea's late President Lansana Conte on Friday in the Guinean capital of Conakry, the West African country's military junta has promised.

According to information from Conakry, the arrangement is among several measures taken by the military junta since Tuesday's coup.

Moussa Dadis Camara, leader of the military junta, vowed to treat the late president with a "grandiose funeral,'' saying one can not leave his body "without care."

The body of the late president was expected to lie in state in a stadium before moved to the city's Grand Mosque.

The military junta has offered guarantee for security during the funeral.

Conte died at the age of 74 on Monday at a hospital in Conakry. He came to power in 1984 and was elected president in 1993. Conte won re-election in 1998 and 2003.
