Sudan's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the Sudanese government would not be surprised with any decision to be taken by the International Criminal Courts (ICC)against its President Omer al-Bashir.
"If an arrest warrant is issued by the ICC against President al-Bashir, the Sudanese government will not be surprised," said Ali al-Sadiq, the spokesman of the Sudanese Foreign Ministry.
He told reporters that the possible ICC decision would "not change anything in plans and progresses of the Sudanese government for solving the Darfur crisis."
"The government knows exactly that the ICC is only a political tool to punish Sudan which should be weak as being conceived by western powers," the spokesman said, adding that the timing of the ICC decision was to disturb Sudan's relations with the new administration in the United States.
He reiterated that the Sudanese government would continuously be committed to the promises it had made to the international society.
Local media reported on Tuesday that the ICC would issue an arrest warrant against the Sudanese president within the next few weeks.
In mid-July the ICC's prosecutor Luis Moreno- Ocampo filed 10 charges, including three counts of genocide, five of crimes against humanity and two of murder.
The prosecutor accused Al-Bashir of masterminding a campaign to get rid of the African tribes of Fur, Masalit and Zaghawa in Darfur.
