Niger is preparing to host this week's meeting of Parliamentary Union of the 57-member Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), according to a statement from the organization released in Lome.
An executive committee meeting was held on Monday in the Togolese capital Lome in preparation for the gathering of OIC members of parliament scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in Niamey, the capital of Niger, the statement said.
Mahamane Ousmane, president of the Nigerien National Assembly (parliament) and also president of the executive committee, said the Niamey meeting will be a follow-up to other sessions on political, economic and legal issues.
It will also discuss human rights, environment, women's status, and social and cultural development.
OIC parliamentarians last met in mid-January in the largest Turkish city of Istanbul to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the Gaza Strip.
