Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has the inclusive government will not allow unnecessary impediments to stifle its efforts to rebuild the economy, New Ziana reported on Thursday.
Addressing guests at the launch of the Short Term Emergency Recovery Programme (STERP), Mugabe said it was time the nation stopped engaging in divisive activities and directed its energies towards constructive programs that create national wealth and uplift living standards of the people.
"As a nation and at all levels, we should move away from expending our energies and resources by engaging in unproductive, divisive and destructive activities and devote ourselves to constructive and beneficial socio-economic reconstruction programs that will create national wealth and uplift living standards of our people," he said.
He said STERP clearly demonstrated commitment and determination of the inclusive government to fight and overcome the socio-economic challenges the country was facing. He said the government would not tolerate businesses that take advantage of measures such as introduction of multiple currencies, removal of price controls and liberalization in goods and foreign exchange to engage in malpractices.
The government, he said, would always respect a responsible business community that strives to produce adequate goods and services for domestic and foreign markets at affordable and competitive prices. He added that increased productivity, refraining from destructive industrial activities as well as negotiating for reasonable wages should be the guiding principles of labor unions.
He said it was also important for civil servants to demonstrate increased dedication and commitment to duty and efficient delivery of service particularly in the areas of health, education, infrastructure rehabilitation and power supply.
