The Angolan government is to invest 2 billion U.S. dollars to revive agricultural production with a view to increasing grain output of 15 million tons in 2013, Angola' s official news agency ANGOP reported on Saturday.
Angolan Minister of Agriculture Afonso Pedro Canga was quoted as saying that the country aims to increase 3 million tons of cereals annually in the coming four years.
"In other words, Angola will be able to produce 15 million tons of assorted cereals in 2013," he said, adding that the central government will invest 500 million dollars a year in the next four years to increase grain production capacity.
According to the agricultural minister, the government will hold on next Tuesday a National Conference on Agriculture in the capital Luanda with the theme "Food Production and Fight Against Famine: A Frontline Priority".
The official said the 2 billion dollars investment in agriculture will enable the government to find a way out of food shortage and reduce import of rice and other foodstuffs.
