Laurent Dona Fologo, the president of the Assembly for Peace, Equity and Progress (RPP), declared on Friday that the candidate for the party in the Nov. 29 presidential election will be Laurent Gbagbo, the current president of the west African country.

"The candidate for RPP is Laurent Gbagbo. This choice is unanimous and final," he declared during the opening of the first ordinary congress for his party in the city of Yamoussukro.

"The world has moved on and we have to change with it. Time requires its own adaptations and we have to make an intelligent and intelligible adaptation," he indicated.

In the party's manifesto, Fologo vowed to stick to the idea of food production culture, which had been stressed by Gbagbo in a message on the eve of Cote d'Ivoire's national Independence Day.

"Go everywhere and explain the vision and the policies of RPP for the new Cote d'Ivoire, sovereignty, dignity, prosperity and solidarity with Laurent Gbagbo," Fologo said.

Created on April 30, 2003 as a movement in the aftermath of the military-political crisis, the RPP has transformed into a political party on May 29, 2008.
