Nigeria's troubled Jos region was hit by another wave of violence on Wednesday with 13 people killed, a government official from the region told Xinhua by phone.
The official, who asked not to be named, said "It is true, we heard 13 people have been killed. But as the government we would like to carry out our own investigation."
A resident who lives around Jos and also asked not to be named, told Xinhua by phone that the attacks were carried out by some groups.
"There were carried out by three groups because three villages were attacked," he said.
"They also set houses ablaze," he added.
Police said investigation has been under way into the incident.
The latest killing came only days after Nigerian security forces operating in northern Plateau State said it intercepted a truck conveying 44 people suspected to be militants on their way to Jos.
National Police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu told Xinhua on phone that they had just received the information and had started investigating the report.
Jos was rocked by violence on March 7 this year amid Muslim- Christian clashes during which the police said 109 people were killed, mostly women and children.
The March 7 violence occurred weeks after hundreds died in local sectarian violence.
