Sudanese presidency race to remove barriers ahead of south referendum (2)

He pointed out that it has been decided that the technical committees of border demarcation would begin their activities to match the maps with the reality on the ground.
He added that the Presidency has also stressed on formation of a political committee, to be chaired by Salah Abdalla from the ruling National Congress Party (NCP), and Pagan Amum, the Secretary General of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), to supervise and follow up with the border demarcation committee and provide it with political support.
The Presidency is expected to hold a meeting on Monday with members of south Sudan referendum commission to review the arrangements for conducting the referendum on its fixed time.
The meeting of the Sudanese Presidency seemed to have effected an important transition in the vision of the two parties to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA), the NCP and the SPLM, to work together to ensure a smooth, transparent and free referendum.
SPLM Secretary General, Pagan Amum, for his part, told reporters that the Presidency has crystallized a clear plan to manage the situations and the referendum process, complete implementation of the CPA and prepare the atmospheres in Sudan for this period.
"The coming period will witness joint work between the NCP and the SPLM to overcome all difficulties facing the border demarcation and the referendum. We have stressed on importance of continued work in managing this sensitive and important period", he said.
