The election will take place within the next three months instead of April next year, the time when the election would have taken place if the Assembly is allowed to complete its mandate.
The motion to dissolve the National Assembly was tabled by the ruling party Lepep led by President James Michel who was re- elected on May 21 this year.
The country's opposition parties have boycotted most sessions of the Assembly, leading to an almost standstill of legislative business since the presidential election during which each accused the other of rigging.
