U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned on Tuesday the deadly attacks in Algiers which reportedly killed at least 45 people, including at least one U.N. staff member.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Ban said that the United Nations is currently working closely with local authorities to account for U.N. personnel who may be missing.
U.N. spokesperson Marie Okabe told reporters at the U.N. Headquarters in New York that there are altogether 19 U.N. staff and 115 local staff in the U.N. house in Algiers.
The bombs exploded around 9:30 a.m. (0830 GMT) with one blasting close to the U.N. refugee agency building and the other near the Algerian Supreme Court building.
According to the latest statistics, among the dead were at least one U.N. staff member at the U.N. refugee agency's offices in the capital, and around 12 U.N. staff members were missing.
