UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon hailed on Thursday the signing of the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) between the United Nations-African Union and the government of Sudan.
"The signing of this agreement represents a positive step forward in our efforts to deploy UNAMID, and the secretary-general would like to congratulate all parties involved in the negotiations leading to the conclusion of the SOFA," said a statement issued by Ban's press office.
The agreement, which was signed on Saturday, paved the way for the full deployment of the joint UN-African Union peacekeeping mission (UNAMID) that has begun deploying in Darfur in western Sudan. Source: Xinhua
