UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed his sadness on Monday at the crash of a UN helicopter in eastern Nepal.

"The secretary-general has learned with great sorrow the news of a UN helicopter crash some 85 kilometers east of Kathmandu today," said a statement issued by Ban's press office.

Reports showed that the crash of the helicopter, which was carrying seven UNMIN (United Nations Mission in Nepal) personnel and three crew, has caused fatalities.

UNMIN has sent a team by road to the crash site to assess the situation and confirm the reports.
