UN special envoy Ibrahim Gambari is to travel to Myanmar Tuesday at the invitation of the government, a UN spokesperson said Monday.
"The Special Adviser of the Secretary-General, Mr. Ibrahim Gambari has been invited to travel to Myanmar by the government and will depart tomorrow," said UN chief Ban Ki-moon's spokesperson Michele Montas.
Gambari will arrive in Myanmar Thursday and "hopes to stay as long as necessary and to consult with a broad range of representatives of Myanmar society, including all the groups which he was not able to see during his last visit," Montas said.
The details of the program are being discussed with the authorities, she said, adding that Gambari "looks forward to the continued cooperation of the Myanmar government."
