Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic is to address the UN Security Council Tuesday on the situation in Kosovo, the council's president announced Monday.
Russian Ambassador Vitaly Churkin, Council President for March, told reporters at the UN Headquarters in New York that the Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic had been allowed to address an open meeting on situation in Kosovo since the Albanian majority province unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in February.
He said it is Russia that proposed the meeting because Moscow sees that "things are very wrong in a number of respects" since Kosovo's Albanian majority declared independence.
Kosovo's parliament voted on Feb. 17 to adopt a unilateral declaration of the province's independence from Serbia. Belgrade immediately denounced the declaration as illegal.
