UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs B. Lynn Pascoe will be leaving for Cyprus by the end of this week for further consultation aimed at pushing forward a final settlement for unification, UN spokesperson Michele Montas said Thursday.
Montas told reporters at the UN Headquarters in New York that Pascoe is to arrive in Cyprus late Sunday, and will remain on the Island through Wednesday before returning to New York.
She said that the Under-Secretary-General intends to travel soon thereafter to Athens and Ankara to continue his consultations with the purpose to help determine how the United Nations can be as helpful as possible to efforts by the Cypriot people to reach a settlement.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon welcomed on Monday the outcome of the meeting on Cyprus between Cyprus' two communities, calling it "a positive step forward."
