UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is traveling to the Romanian capital of Bucharest, where he will attend on Thursday an international conference on peace and development efforts in strife-torn Afghanistan, a UN spokesperson said Tuesday.

Farhan Haq told reporters that the meeting will be attended by Afghan President Hamid Karzai, newly-appointed UN envoy Kai Eide and key international stakeholders, including high-level representatives of the NATO membership, of non-NATO contributing nations of the International Security Assistance Force, and representatives of key international organizations, such as the European Union and the World Bank.

On Thursday, the secretary-general will conduct bilateral meetings with some of the leaders attending the NATO Summit that is also taking place in Bucharest. He will also meet with the president and prime minister of Romania while he is in the country.
