UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned on Wednesday the terrorist attack in southern Israel and Gaza Strip.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Ban condemned the attacks by Palestinian militants against the Nahal Oz depot in Israel, in which two Israeli civilian contractors working to supply fuel to the Gaza Strip were killed and others injured.

He is gravely concerned at the prospect of an escalation in violence while recognizing Israel's legitimate right to self-defense, and deplores the reported civilian causalities among Palestinians during Israeli military operations Wednesday afternoon.

Ban, who is visiting Russian for the first time since he took office, reiterated his call for the protection of all civilians in the conflict.
