The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) plans to put into trial the single window system that will accelerate customs clearance and enhance trade competitiveness in the region starting next year.
The trial will include Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam and Laos, an Indonesian official was quoted Tuesday as saying.
Meanwhile, Singapore, Thailand and Cambodia will consider joining the ASEAN Single Window (ASW) after the trial period, said Edy Putra Irawady, who heads Indonesia's ASW preparatory committee.
"The ASW means centralized procedures, so that the flow of goods in the region will be transparent, accountable and easier," he said in major national newspaper Tempo's website.
He did not say whether Myanmar, also an ASEAN member, would get involved in the ASW. Source:Xinhua
