UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday expressed deep concern over the delayed release of the March 29 election results in Zimbabwe.
"Absent a transparent solution to this impasse, the situation could deteriorate further with serious implications for the people of Zimbabwe," Ban told a high-profile Security Council meeting on peace and security in Africa.
"If there is a second round of elections, they must be conducted in a fair and transparent manner, with international observers," he said.
The secretary-general urged leaders of the Southern African Development Community to continue their efforts to resolve the issue, adding that the United Nations "stands ready to provide assistance in this regard." Source:Xinhua
