United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday called for the agreement reached at the 12th United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to be translated into actions.
A large number of agreements have been reached on core issues, Ban said in his statement to the ongoing UNCTAD, which runs from April 20 to April 25.
"We all know what needs to be done, ... So let us seize this moment. Let us take bold steps," Ban said, adding that a very informative, interactive and energetic discussion has taken place among the participants.
According to Ban, at the meeting, the need for urgent action to achieve the Millennium Development Goals was agreed upon, as well as the need to address Africa's development emergency, the need for a just and equitable trading system and the need to face threats like climate change and rising food prices
"If we lag, it is in translating our agreement into action, together we must work to change this," Ban said.
Later in the day, Ban left Accra for Monrovia, capital of Liberia, for a stop-over in his four-nation West African tour, which will also take him to Burkina Faso and Cote d'Ivoire.
