The European Commission hopes that the changes in the Bulgarian government will lead to strengthening of the reforms in fighting corruption and organized crime, local BTA reported Tuesday citing EC Spokesman Mark Gray.
The matter of appointments and resignations is a totally internal issue for the Bulgarian authorities but nevertheless the EC takes into account the changes that were made, said the spokesman.
The appointment of a deputy prime minister without portfolio to oversee spending of EU funds shows awareness and commitment on the part of the government to the need of ensuring proper absorption of such resources, Gray said.
The next three months are a time of critical importance when the EC wants to see tangible progress and cooperation on the ground, ahead of the key report due to release in June on Bulgaria's performance as a member of the EU, said Gray.
He added that the EC will continue to do all it can to assist the Bulgarian government in meeting the commitments it has made at the time of accession. Source:Xinhua
