United Nations Secretary-General BanKi-moon praised the role played by Burkina Faso in the Cote d'Ivoire peace process during his meeting Tuesday with Burkinabe President Blaise Compaore.
Burkina Faso and President Compaore have played a determined role in the process to help rid Cote d'Ivoire of crises, said Ban, who is on a four-nation tour of West Africa.
The secretary-general said the current global hike in food prices has hurt Burkina Faso's economy and dealt a severe blow to efforts of the past several decades to eradicate poverty from Burkina Faso and other developing countries.
Ban's two-day official visit to Burkina Faso began Tuesday. The same day, he also met the country's premier and other high-ranking officials.
Burkina Faso is the third leg of the UN secretary-general's West Africa tour, which began last weekend. He has already visited Ghana, where he attended the 12th session of the UNCTAD summit, and Liberia. His next and final stop is Cote d'Ivoire.
