United Nations Secretary-General BanKi-moon on Wednesday concluded his two-day official visit to Burkina Faso and headed for Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire, for the fourth leg of his four-nation West African tour.
During his stop-over in Burkina Faso that started Tuesday, Ban praised the role played by the country in the Cote d'Ivoire peace process and said the UN supports such efforts.
The 2007 Ouagadougou Peace Agreement has achieved positive gains thanks to the diplomatic efforts by Burkinabe President Blaise Compaore, Ban added.
Ban analyzed Burkina Faso's social and economic situation and the missions of UN representatives in the country during meeting with UN officials.
On Wednesday he also visited some elementary schools in Ouagadougou.
Burkina Faso is the third leg of Ban's West Africa tour, which began last weekend. He has already visited Ghana, where he attended the 12th session of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) summit, and Liberia.
During the visit to Cote d'Ivoire, the secretary-general is scheduled to hold talks with President Laurent Gbagbo, Prime Minister Guillaume Soro, opposition leaders and members of the civil society.
He will also meet with the leadership of the UN peacekeeping mission in Cote d'Ivoire.
