United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Cote d'Ivoire's commercial capital Abidjan Wednesday for a two-day official visit to the West African country.
Upon arrival at Abidjan airport, the UN chief welcomed the ongoing peace process in Cote d'Ivoire and hailed the agreement on the date of a presidential elections.
The elections slated for Nov. 30, an important breakthrough in the peace process, are of great significance for peace and stability in Cote d'Ivoire as well as in the whole West Africa, Ban said.
The UN will work with the international community to continue providing support to the process, he added.
Cote d'Ivoire announced earlier this month it will hold presidential elections on Nov. 30, after repeated postponements due to disagreement regarding the disarmament of ex-combatants and technical problems.
Cote d'Ivoire is the last stop on the secretary-general's four-nation West Africa tour, which began last weekend. He had visited Ghana, Liberia and Burkina Faso.
