UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday urged Israel to stop settlement construction in the West Bank.
Ban, who just returned from a London meeting of the Middle East Quartet, briefed UN reporters on the outcomes of the gathering.
"We agreed that there must be urgent progress, if there's to be any reasonable prospect of building a Palestinian state living side by side with Israel in peace and security," he said.
"I repeat today what we set forth in London: Israel must halt settlement building in the West Bank," he stressed.
The UN chief also urged the Palestinian Authority to fulfill its commitment to fight terrorism.
"The rocket attacks on Israel must stop. The humanitarian suffering in Gaza must end," he said.
"I am committed to work with the Quartet and with our Arab and Israeli partners toward these goals," he added. Source:Xinhua
