The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Sudan Ameerah Haq called for immediate access to North Darfur to provide aid to those affected in recent conflict, a UN report said Tuesday.

"I am deeply perturbed by the reported bombings of a school, water installations and a market where civilians, especially women and children are present," Haq said.

"It is essential that we have immediate humanitarian access to the affected populations in order to provide humanitarian assistance and medical evacuation," the report cited Haq as saying.

Another UN official said earlier the area has witnessed repeated aerial attacks and possible fighting between government and rebel forces in last few days, which may have led to considerable civilian casualties.
