UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly deplored on Wednesday the recent bombings of civilian locations, including areas where children congregate in North Darfur.
The secretary-general is "deeply troubled" in particular, by the bombing of a school, water installations and a market in the villages of Um Sidir, Ein Bassar and Shegeg Karo, said a statement issued by Ban's press office.
Ban also expressed concern about "increasing acts of banditry" which are complicating humanitarian operations and impede the UN-African Union (AU) mission's ability to carry out its mandate.
He reiterated his call for all parties to urgently cease hostilities, ensure the protection of civilians and to work with the UN-AU force to promote security and commit to the political process being led by the UN and the AU.
