UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday called for consensus to be reached by all parties on the pressing Bolivian issues.
In a statement issued by his press office, Ban welcomed the "intense diplomatic work" being carried out by the Organization of American States (OAS), the Group of Friends of Bolivia -- comprising Argentina, Brazil and Colombia -- and others with regard to political developments in Bolivia.
Ban said that he "welcomes the call for dialogue made by the OAS in its resolution of 3 May and urges all political and social actors to seek a consensus on the pressing issues affecting the Bolivian people."
Media reports said that tensions have been high in the South American nation since last weekend, when the region of Santa Cruz held an autonomy referendum.
