The European Union on Tuesday called for peaceful election campaign in Macedonia ahead of the June 1 general election.
"The EU Presidency strongly condemns a series of incidents that occurred in the past few days in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia," a statement from the rotating Slovenian Presidency said.
"Violence has no place in election campaign," the statement said.
The presidency urged the relevant authorities to investigate the incidents and to prosecute the perpetrators.
It appealed to all political parties in the country to "honor the pledges made by signing the Code of Conduct for Free and Fair Elections, and to demonstrate their full commitment to free, fair, and peaceful elections."
Gunmen shot at the car of an ethnic Albanian party leader on Monday while he was campaigning for the June 1 poll. Four of the regional party offices were also attacked on Sunday. There have been no reports of injuries. Source: Xinhua
