UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday voiced his strong support for the Organization of American States (OAS) to continue its efforts to help restore normal bilateral relations between Colombia and Ecuador.

In a statement issued by his press office, Ban welcomed a report presented by OAS Secretary-General Jose Miguel Insulza to the 38th OAS General Assembly held earlier this week in Medellin, Colombia.

The report noted "progress in efforts to restore normal bilateral relations between the two countries," and that the foreign ministers at the meeting requested that Insulza "continue to exercise his good offices in this regard," according to the statement.

Colombia-Ecuador relations soured in March following Colombia's cross-border attack that led to the killing of a senior leader of the rebel group, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
