The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on Thursday announced a plan to launch a program to build "green offices" to promote environmental protection.
With the celebration of World Environment Day, the UNDP's officer Cecilia Falconi said everybody has to compromise with nature.
The program, called "Green Office," is aimed at minimizing the impact of the operation of governmental and business facilities on the environment, she said.
The program also seeks to save energy. It will regulate air conditioning and ventilation systems to reduce electrical consumption and avoid using incandescent bulbs and other high-energy-consuming electrical fittings, Falconi added.
She also stressed water conservation. "Maintenance is rarely carried out in offices to avoid water waste from the toilets, or to fix leaking faucets, and drop by drop, a lot of water can be wasted," she said.
Moreover, the program will promote savings by recycling and reducing packaging and waste.
"Governments have so much to do, legislating policies to promote the care of the environment that do not promote contamination and the improper use of resources," Falconi said.
Individuals, in their private lives, could diminish their ecological imprint by deciding the way they consume, she said.
