Brazil and the European Union on Friday pledged to boost strategic partnership and hopefully sign a joint action plan by the end of this year, said reports reaching here from the Slovenian resort of Brdo.
The joint action plan, a follow-up to the strategic partnership that was established at the first EU-Brazil summit in July 2007, is designed to widen and deepen their cooperation in areas such as technology, climate change, science, environment and education, the Slovenian news agency STA reported.
"There are no big differences in terms of content ... I'm confident that the document will be signed in December" at the next EU-Brazil summit, Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim said in Brdo after a meeting with the EU Troika, which is led by EU commissioner for external relations Benita Ferrero Waldner.
Slovenia, which currently holds the EU's rotating presidency, said the meeting would focus on cooperation in areas such as the fight against poverty, climate change and energy security.
According to Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, talks also touched on relations between the EU and regional associations in Latin America such as the Andean Community and Mercosur.
Amorim said South America was using the EU model of regional integration, as it is hard to find a better one anywhere in the world. Source:Xinhua
