UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon voiced sadness on Monday over the deaths of two senior Guatemalan officials as the result of a helicopter crash last week.

Ban "is saddened by the news of the helicopter crash that took the lives of Vinicio Gomez and Edgar Hernondez, Minister and Vice-Minister of the Interior of Guatemala," said a statement issued by his press office.

"He wishes to express his sincere condolences to the government of Guatemala, its people and the families for this tragic loss, both personally and for the important work they were doing at the head of the Ministry," it added.
