EU extends mandate of mission in DR Congo

The European Council decided hereon Monday to extend for one year the mandate of the mission EUSEC DR Congo.

The mission, started in 2005, will be extended from July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009.

The mission, composed of 46 people, was to provide advice and assistance in reforming the security sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In addition, the EU's Political and Security Committee appointed General Jean-Paul Michel as head of EUSEC DR Congo to succeed Michel Sido.
