EU signs deal with U.S. on aviation safety co-op |

The European Union signed here on Monday an agreement on cooperation in the regulation of civil aviation safety with the United States.
The deal sought to ensure a high level of civil aviation safety and to minimize economic burdens on the aviation industry and operators.
The agreement is aimed at enabling the reciprocal acceptance of
findings of compliance and approvals issued by respective technical agents and aviation authorities.
It meant to promote a high degree of safety in air transport, ensure the regulatory cooperation and harmonization between the United States and the EU regarding airworthiness approvals and monitoring of civil aeronautical products, approvals and environmental testing of civil aeronautical products and approvals and monitoring of maintenance facilities.
The agreement is the result of negotiations led by the European Commission on the basis of a mandate granted by the Council in March, 2004.
