The sessions of the 23rd International Socialist Conference concluded in Lagonisi, south of Athens on Wednesday, with the agenda focusing on climate change, migration, world peace and crisis on foodstuffs.
After the conference, Greek main opposition PASOK party leader and Socialist International President George Papandreou stated that the 169 member-parties would lead the efforts to combat the repercussions from climate change, adding that the attendants agreed on how to combat for world peace, equality and how to deal with foodstuffs crisis and migration.
The three-day Conference also focused on the Middle East and developments in the Balkans. Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Defense Minister and Labor Party Leader Ehud Barak met on Tuesday and both of them expressed their support to the Middle East peace process.
Papandreou said that these meetings, "even if they are symbolic, have their significance."
