UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday congratulated Ram Baran Yadav on his election as Nepal's first president.

The secretary-general "calls on all parties to cooperate in forming a new government which will carry forward Nepal's peace process," said a statement issued by Ban's press office.

Yadav of the Nepali Congress was elected by Nepal's Constituent Assembly on Monday.
