Trade ministers from some 35 major WTO members continued their talks here on Saturday, with their attention turning to services.

The services negotiation followed positive progress on Friday on agriculture and NAMA (non-agricultural market access), the two key areas of the so-called Doha Round of trade opening talks.

After about five hours of consultations on the topic, EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said he was "moderately encouraged" by the progress made.

Meanwhile, U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab also said the meeting, the first involving trade ministers, was a good step forward.

"Whether it was the developed countries or the developing countries' participants, this conversation about services ... was a good step forward, a positive step forward," she said.
