UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon strongly condemned the recent series of car bombings in Spain and expressed sympathy for the victims and their families, the UN said in a statement on Monday.

"The secretary-general strongly condemned the recent series of car bombings in Spain, which have resulted in one fatality and the wounding of several others," the statement said.

"He expressed his sympathy for the victims and their families, and his solidarity with the government and people of Spain in the face of such terrorist violence," the statement added.

According to media reports, a car bomb exploded in Spain on Monday, killing an army officer and wounding six others. This was the third attack in 24 hours by suspected members of the Basque separatist group ETA.
