Cuba slammed the United States on Wednesday for imposing a decades-long blockade against the Caribbean state.
The Cuban people have endured the "longest and cruelest blockade in history, imposed by the most powerful nation on Earth," Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, head of the Cuban delegation, told world leaders at the general debate of the 63rd UN General Assembly.
Despite the fact that the 192-member assembly has repeatedly called on it to end the blockade, the U.S. government has not only "ignored the will of the international community, but also gradually intensified its economic war against Cuba," he said.
As of 2007, the General Assembly had acted for 16 consecutive years to approve a resolution urging the United States to lift its embargo against Cuba.
