UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon welcomed on Monday the agreement between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States on denuclearization verification measures
The accord will allow for "the resumption of the six-party process and related activities," Ban said in a statement issued by his press office. "This is another step towards a verifiable non-nuclear Korean Peninsula."
"The secretary-general urges all the participants of the talks to redouble their efforts to meet their respective obligations and to complete the 'disablement phase' as soon as possible," said the statement.
"The secretary-general remains fully supportive of this process," it added.
The United States removed the DPRK from its terrorism list on Saturday after the two sides reached the agreement on verification measures over the latter's nuclear program.
The removal follows a two-day trip to Pyongyang by U.S. chief negotiator to the six-party nuclear talks, Christopher Hill, earlier this month.
