The Seventh Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Foreign Ministers Meeting opened in Astana, Capital of Kazakhstan on Oct 16, 2008.
Foreign ministers or representatives from 28 Asian countries attended the meeting. The Chinese delegation headed by Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun also attended the meeting. The attendees will discuss a series of issues concerning Asia cooperation, and the focus will be laid on issues of energy, grain security, transportation, finance and development of information technology.
ACD was initiated by former Thai Prime Ministry Taksin in 2001. It aims at integrating the present sub-regional cooperation in Asia, and promoting dialogue and cooperation among Asian countries.
China has actively taken part in ACD related activities and is now leading the agriculture and energy cooperation. In May 2004, Joint Initiative of intensifying agricultural cooperation among ACD members was adopted at The Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Workshop for Agricultural Ministers held in Beijing. China is now pushing the Qingdao Initiative adopted by the Third Asian Cooperation Dialogue Foreign Ministers Meeting.
