UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro left for Ethiopia on Wednesday to attend the Second Meeting of the Africa Commission.
The two-day meeting, which begins on Nov. 20 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital, will focus on the creation of jobs in advancing economic growth in Africa. That's to enhance implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, the internationally approved targets for eradicating poverty and other social ills by 2015.
Convened by the Denmark government, the commission will "examine underlying issues relating to education, youth and women employment, and climate change," the UN said on its website.
Migiro will also address the Sixth African Development Forum on gender equality and the elimination of violence against women.
The meeting was jointly organized by the UN Economic Commission for Africa, the African Union, and the African Development Bank.
