Euro-Med Ministerial Conference on Water was rescheduled for Dec. 22 at the shores of the Dead Sea after two postponements, local daily The Jordan Times reported Friday.

The new date was set in coordination between Jordan and Union for the Mediterranean, said Nassar Habashenh, spokesperson of Jordanian Foreign Ministry.

He also added that they are in the process of sending invitations to European Union (EU) member states.

The water conference was originally slated for Oct. 28 at the Dead Sea, but the Jordanian government decided to postpone the event until reaching a settlement over the Arab League (AL)'s participation and membership in the Union for the Mediterranean.

In an EU meeting in southeastern French city of Marseilles, it was agreed on to hold the water conference in December after reaching a settlement to the problem.

However, the conference was delayed again pending coordination with all participants over the best timing, EU sources announced then.

According to earlier schedule, the two-day conference will seek to lay a broad framework for a long term regional water strategy and make the first concrete plan in the field.

Participants will also discuss and define the main challenges as well as solutions to the water shortage in countries like Jordan, which is one of the world's top 10 states deprived of the resources.
