Dr. Surin said that after learning from the result of the two-day workshop, it was understood that researchers and scholars have essential roles in supplying scientific information to the policy makers before materialized it in political decision on climate change issue.
The ASEAN leaders have committed themselves to acting proactively and responsibly to contribute to the global efforts on climate change through their various declarations on this issue, he said.
The workshop also revealed the results of a study carried out by the Asian Development Bank (ADB)- UK study that said the Southeast Asia region will suffer the worst from climate change impact if compared to other regions across the world.
The study also showed that by the year of 2100 the temperature would increase by 4.8-Centigrade degree, seal level would be 70 cm higher and 75 percent of rice paddy will be lost.
