The State Council has approved an additional investment of more than 11 billion yuan to resettle residents in Three Gorges, officials said in YiChang on Monday.

The new investment is needed to complete the massive resettlement of 1.35 million people launched in 1993, said officials attending a conference of the Office of the Three Gorges Project Construction Committee under the State Council.

Central China's Hubei Province will receive 15 percent of the funds and Chongqing Municipality 85 percent, according to the officials.

China will move the last group of more than 100,000 residents out from the Three Gorges reservoir area by the end of next year as the final part of the massive relocation plan. (one U.S. dollar equals 7.60 yuan)
