U.S. stocks traded higher Thursday on company acquisition news, with the Dow hitting a new record high.

In the midday trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 175.26, to 13,753.13, the new record high. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 15.50 to 1,534.26, and the Nasdaq composite index added 24.85 to 2,676.64.

America's trade deficit rose by 2.3 percent in May to 60.04 billion U.S. dollars, led by a surge in energy imports, the Commerce Department reported Thursday.

Crude oil futures rose above 73 dollars per barrel on Thursday, amid concerns over supply.
