Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will launch a new service from Abu Dhabi to Nepal's capital Kathmandu from October, local newspaper Gulf News reported on Wednesday.
Etihad will provide four flights a week to Kathmandu, which will join the airline's expanding network across the South Asian subcontinent, including Dhaka, Delhi, Kochi, Mumbai, Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar and Lahore, according to the report. The new service will be operated by a two-cabin Airbus A330-200 configured to carry 262 passengers, with 22 in business class and 240 in economy.
"The Kathmandu service will be enormously popular with the UAE's Nepalese community as well as leisure travelers flying with Etihad from Europe and North America," the airline's CEO James Hogan was quoted as saying. Established in July 2003, Etihad launched its first flight on Nov. 6, 2003. It currently owns a fleet of 26 aircraft which operates services to 46 global destinations.
