The Australian dollar closed at new 18-year high at 88.08 U.S. cents Friday compared with Thursday 's close of 87.85 cents.
During the day, it traded between a low of 87.95 U.S. cents and a high of 88.13 cents, its best level since Feb. 14, 1989 when it clipped 88.92 U.S. cents.
The currency ended at 107.68 Japanese yen from Thursday's close of 107.06 yen, and was at 63.80 euro cents from 63.62 euro cents.
